Joy Hwande Lagos, Nigeria Borsa di studio universitaria

Cari amici,
Mi chiamo Joy, ho 25 anni, terza figlia di una famiglia di nove: io, mio padre, mia madre, due matrigne e quattro fratellastri. Abito nella parte nord della Nigeria, che viene ritenuta un’area non molto civilizzata.

Quando ero una bambina, mio padre lavorava come guardia giurata presso il governo locale del mio stato d’origine. Lui è andato in pensione otto anni fa, quando io stavo per finire le scuole superiori.

Nonostante ricevesse la pensione, la somma non era sufficiente per permettermi di proseguire gli studi. Di conseguenza sono stata costretta ad abbandonarli.

Successivamente, un mio amico mi ha parlato delle borse di studio YES, e adesso grazie a ciò ho potuto finire le superiori, ed iscrivermi all’università di Lagos, alla facoltà di Business Administration.

I corsi che seguo all’università sono part-time, e quindi ho anche la possibilità di lavorare e guadagnare parte dei soldi che mi servono a mantenermi. Gli altri costi che devo sostenere vengono coperti dalla borsa di studio che ricevo da YES. Questa borsa è stata una fonte di grande aiuto, poiché mi ha permesso di lavorare e avere tempo per lo studio, cosa estremamente importante per me.

My name is Joy, I am 25 years old, third child in a family of nine; my father, my mother, two stepmothers and four siblings. I come from the northern part of Nigeria, which is seen as not so civilized.

When I was a child, my father was working as a security guard with the local government in my state of origin. He got retired eight years ago when I was about to finish my secondary education. He is receiving his pension, which was very little so he could no longer afford to send me to school. As a result of this, I was not able to further my education.

Then, a friend of mine told me about the YES scholarship, and now thanks to this I could completed my secondary school and have gotten admission into the University of Lagos in the faculty of Business Administration.

My studies are part-time so I can work, as a part- time staff. I am earning part of my salary. As for my education, the costs are being taken care of by the scholarship, which I am receiving. This has been a source of great help to me as it enables me to have time to study, which is very important to me.
